Once upon a time, a hare went to a pool to quench his thirst. As a matter of chance, he saw a slow moving tortoise over there and mocked at him. The tortoise felt pinched and challenged the hare for a race.

The hare accepted the challenge with a smile. The next morning they both met at the starting point and the race began. As expected, the hare went far ahead of the tortoise.

After covering more than half of the distance, if started feeling bored. As the tortoise was quite far behind, the hare thought of taking some rest. So if stopped and began to eat blades of grass. Having his had fill, he felt asleep. Nearby, if saw a shady bush and laid down under it.

As for the tortoise, he constantly moved along at puny pace and overtook the sleeping hare. He reached the destination point and won the race.

When the hare wolf up. It was fairly late. He feared that the tortoise might have passed him. So he ran at a break neck speed but reaching the destination point, has highly disappointed to find his rival already there as winner. This story therefore teaches up that, one who notes steadily, though slow, is never a looser, that's why we say, slow and steady wins the race.

An unemployed graduate woke
up one morning and checked his
pocket. All he had left was $10.
He decided to use it to buy food
and then wait for death as he
was too proud to go begging..
He was frustrated as he could
find no job, and nobody was
ready to help him.
two little children came along
and asked him to help them
with food as they had not eaten
for almost a week. He looked at
them. They were so lean that he
could see their bones coming
out. Their eyes had gone into
the socket. With the last bit of
compassion he had, he gave
them the food. The old man and
children prayed that God would
bless and prosper him and then
gave him a very old coin. The
young graduate said to them
'you need the prayer more than
I do'.
With no money, no job, no food,
the young graduate went under
the bridge to rest and wait for
death. As he was about to sleep,
he saw an old newspaper on the
ground. He picked it up, and
suddenly he saw an
advertisement for people with

He decided to go there with the
old coin the old man gave him.
On getting to the place, he gave
the proprietor the coin. The
proprietor screamed, brought
out a big book and showed the
young graduate a photograph.
This same old coin was worth 3
million dollars. The young
graduate was overjoyed as the
proprietor gave him a bank
draft for 3 million dollars within
an hour. He collected the Bank
Draft and went in search of the
old man and little children.
By the time he got to where he
left them eating, they had gone.
He asked the owner of the
canteen if he knew them. He
said no but they left a note for
you. He quickly opened the note
thinking it would lead him to
find them.
This is what the note said: 'You
gave us your all and we have
rewarded you back with the
coin,' signed The heavenly hosts

An man walks into a bank in

The bank officer tells him that

The bank's president and its

Two weeks later, the man

tHE TALE OF THE ODD BOy [a moral tale]

This story is just a tale to teach about contentment. Read and enjoy...

There was once an odd boy who always wanted what was not
his own: his friends' toys, his cousins'
clothes, his parents' books...he
ended up being so envious that
even the hairs on his head were
given to jealousy. One fateful day, it
just so happened that a single hair on
the crown of his head woke up
completely green due to a small stain. Now, when
the other hairs saw this they
became so hugely envious that
they too ended up turning
into green colour.
The following day, a hair near his
hairline was stained by
something blue. Seeing this,
again all the other hairs on his head ended
up blue. So, day after day, the
boy's hair would completely
change colour, driven by the
boundless envy his hairs felt.
Everyone loved this boy's
colourful and ever-changing
hair; except the boy himself. He
always wanted what other
people had, so, of course, he
wanted to have hair just like the
others had. One day, this
angered him so much that he
furiously pulled at his hair. One
rather thin hair couldn't endure
all the pulling, and it let go;
falling to the floor with quite a
nice smooth flight.
Of course, the other hairs saw
this, felt envious, and they all let
go too. Within a minute the boy
was as bald as an egg, and the
look of surprise on his face
seemed like a bad joke.
After many tears and tantrums,
the boy understood how all this
had happened, and how it had
all been a natural consequence
of his envy. He decided that,
from then on, he would try to
enjoy what he had, without
becoming obsessed by what
others had. Trying to put this
into practice he started by
making the most of his smooth,
shiny, hairless head.
He turned it into his own private
drawing canvas. From that day on, he
took to painting beautiful,
colourful scenes on his bald
head. People enjoyed these so
much that the boy finally
developed into one of the
world’s best - and certainly
the world's most original -

Always be satisfied with what you have. Not being contented with what you have will only yield you negative results.

Make the most of what you have just like the odd boy later did.

hARD TIMEs [a motivational story]

Are you passing through tough times now and you feel like the situation is no longer bearable? Then you need to read this story.

A student once complained to his
teacher about the
difficulties and tough times he has to endure in
his life. He was born into a very
poor family and had to look
after his home and support his
old and sick parents and his
younger ones by working extra
hard every day after the school classes
in school while his wealthy
class-mates could play and rest
without having to worry over anything. He
was almost exhausted and had
even thought about committing
His teacher went inside, brought out a
carrot and an egg and told him to examine carefully.
He was asked to comment on
their hardness. The boy said that the
carrot was sufficiently hard that
it cannot be crushed by hands.
The egg could be easily cracked
and the liquid contents would
leak out with ease.
Then the teacher put the carrot
and egg together in a pan,
added some water to cover them,
and then boiled the
Content over the flame. After
some time, the teacher took out
the boiled items from the pan and
asked for the comments of the
student. The boy said that he observed that
the carrot, which was hard
earlier, had become very soft
after boiling. While the egg, on the
other hand, became very hard
during the boiling. Its contents
had solidified and now would
not flow out even when the
shell is shattered.

The teacher told the boy,
“Earlier, you were like the
carrot. Your courage and
strength of mind were lost
when you were exposed to the
hard realities of life. You became
weak and could be smashed
Next, he displayed the egg and
told, “Be like the egg. You are
soft and tender by nature, but
the adversities of life should
make you bolder and stronger.
Then you can gain the courage

sALTY COFFEe [a motivational story]

A young guy met a pretty girl at a party. She was
so outstanding, this sent many guys
chasing after her, while he being
average, nobody paid him attention
At the end of the party, he
finally summoned courage to invite
the girl to have coffee with him.
She was surprised, but out of
politeness, she promised. They both
sat in a nice coffee shop, he was
too nervous to say anything, she
felt uncomfortable, waiting for
She kept on thinking, "Please,
let it get over soon...let me go
home...." she finally said.
The coffee was brought and suddenly, he
asked the waiter. "Would you
please get me some salt? I'd like
to put it in my coffee!"
Everyone at the shop stared at him, so
strange! His face turned red, but
still, he put the salt in his coffee
and drank it. She asked him
curiously, "Why this unusual habit?"
He took a couple of sips and
replied, "When I was still a little boy,
I lived near the sea, I liked
playing in the sea! I can still
remember the taste of the sea..
This salty coffee...every time
I drink it, I always think of my
childhood days, think of my
hometown... Oh no! I miss my
hometown so much... I miss my
parents who are still out there."
While saying this, tears filled his

Pretty soon, she also started to speak,
she spoke about her faraway
hometown, her childhood, her
family. That was a really great
date, also a beautiful beginning
of their story.
This new pair continued to date. She
got to discover that actually, he was a
man who met all her
expectations: he was tolerant,
kind hearted, warm, caring. He
was such a good man and
had it not been for the salt in the
coffee, she'd never have really
known him!
The rest of the story was just
like any other beautiful love
story: they finally got married
, and they lived a very
happy married life.
And sure! every time she made
coffee for him, she put some
salt in the coffee, just the way
he liked it!
After 40 years of marital bliss,
he died after a short illness.
One day, she found a letter he
had left for her:
"My dearest,
Please forgive me, but I lied to
you.. Only once.. Remember the
first time we dated? I was so
nervous, I asked for salt instead
of sugar! I was too
embarrassesd to admit it, so I
just went ahead.
I never thought that could bring
about such a frank and intimate
conversation between the two
of us!
Later, I tried to tell you the truth
so many times but was afraid
you'd think I was a liar and
never again believe me ...
Now I'm dying, and am afraid of
nothing so I tell you the truth: I
don't like salty coffee,
as a matter of fact I hate it!
What a strange bad taste.. But
since you made it for me with
so much love, I drank it all my
Please forgive me, darling.. for
lying to you first in that Coffee
Shop and then not telling you
the truth everytime you made
coffee for me! I am not lying
now when I say, I couldn't have
that coffee any other way!
- still madly in love with you"

If anybody ask her: "How did
that salted coffee taste?"
"It's sweet." She always replied.

oNE HUNDRED DOLLARs [a motivational story]

One night, a man came home from work
late, tired and irritated only to find
his 5-year old son waiting for
him at the door.
After a brief welcome, a short conversation came up...

SON: "Daddy, may I ask you a
DAD: "sure, what is it?"
SON: "Daddy, how much, precisely do you
make in an hour?"
DAD: "That's none of your
business. Why do you ask such a
SON: "I just want to know.
Please daddy, just tell me, how much
you make an hour?"
DAD: "If you must know, I make
$100 an hour. Are you now okay?"
SON: "Oh! (With his head facing down).
"Daddy, may I please
borrow $50?"
The father was furious.
DAD: "If the only reason you
asked that is so you can borrow
some money to buy a silly toy or
some other nonsense, then you
march yourself straight into your
room and go to bed. Think
about why you are being so
selfish. I work hard everyday and all you can come up with is this your stupid
childish behavior of yours."

The little boy quietly went to his
room and shut the door behind him.
The man sat down and started
to get even angrier about the
little boy's questions. How dare
he ask such questions only to
get some money?
After about an hour or thereabout, the
man had calmed down, and
started to think: Maybe there
was something he really needed
to buy with that $ 50 and he
really doesn't ask for money very
often. The man went to the
door of the little boy's room and
opened the door.

DAD: "Are you asleep, son?"
SON: "No daddy, I'm awake".
DAD: "I've been thinking, maybe
I was too hard on you earlier.
It's been a long day and I took
out my aggravation on you.
Here's the $50 you asked for."
The little boy sat straight up,
SON: "Oh, thank you daddy!"
Then, reaching under his pillow
he pulled out some crumpled up
bills. The man saw that the boy
already had money, started to
get angry again. The little boy
slowly counted out his money,
and then looked up at his father.
DAD: "Why do you want more
money if you already have
SON: "Because I didn't have
enough, but now I do.
"Daddy, I have $100 now. Can I
buy an hour of your time?
Please come home early
tomorrow. I would like to have
dinner with you."

The father was crushed. He put
his arms around his little son,
and he begged for his

It's just a short reminder to all
of you working so hard in life.
We should not let time slip
through our fingers without
having spent some time with
those who really matter to us,
those close to our hearts.
Do remember to share that
$100 worth of your time with
someone you love?
If we die tomorrow,
the company that we are
working for
could easily replace us in a
matter of days.

their lives.
And come to think of it,
we pour ourselves more into
work than to our family.

oNE EYED MUMMy [a moral story]

Jimmy's mom had just only one eye. He
hated her so much, the hatred was with a passion!... She was such an
embarrassment. In order to earn a living, She cooked for
students and teachers, with the money she got, she
supported the family, as her husband, Jimmy's mother had died a long time ago.
One very day, during
elementary school where Jimmy's
mom came to say hello to him. He
was so embarrassed.
"How could she do this to me?" he said in annoyance. He
ignored his mother, gave her a hateful
look and ran out. The next day
at school one of his classmates
said, 'Jimmy, your mom only has
one eye!'
Jimmy felt like he should bury himself. He just wanted his
mom to disappear
. Jimmy confronted her that
day and said to her, ' If you're only
going to make me a laughing
stock, why don't you just die?'
The poor woman didn't respond... Jimmy
didn't even stop to think for a
second about what he had said,
because he was full of anger. He
was oblivious to her feelings.
All Jimmy could think of was getting out of the house, and
having nothing to do with his mom. So
he studied very hard, got a chance
to go abroad to study.
Then, he got married. Jimmy bought a
house of his own and had his own kids
. He was now happy and satisfied with his
life, his kids and the comforts from his wife.
Then one day, his mother came
to visit him. She hadn't seen him
in years and she didn't even
meet her grandchildren.
When she stood by the door, Jimmy's
children laughed at her, and immediately, Jimmy
yelled at her for coming over
uninvited and without giving any notification for coming. He screamed at her, at the top of his lungs
'How dare you come to my
house and scare my children!'
And to this, the poor mother quietly
answered, 'Oh, I'm so sorry. I
may have gotten the wrong
address,' and she went out
of sight.
One day, a letter regarding a
school reunion came to Jimmy's
house. So he lied to my wife that he
was going on a business trip.
After the reunion, he went to the
old shack just out of curiosity.
His neighbors told him that his mother had died.
Jimmy did not even shed a single tear. They
handed him a letter that she had
wanted him to have. Here the content of the letter goes...

'My dearest son,
I think of you all the the time. I'm
sorry that I came to your house
and scared your children.
I was so glad when I heard you
were coming for the reunion.
But I may not be able to even
get out of bed to see you. I'm
sorry that I was a constant
embarrassment to you when
you were growing up.
You see........when you were very
little, you got into an accident,
and lost your eye. As a mother, I
couldn't stand watching you
having to grow up with one eye.
So I gave you mine.
I was so proud of my son who
was seeing a whole new world
for me, in my place, with that
With all my love to you,
Your mother.

a TRUE FRIENd [a moral story]

A true friend is a special gift from God and indeed a rare gem. Read this short story and see why I said so.

The soldier's heart was filled with horror
soldier as he saw
his lifelong friend fall in battle.
Caught in a trench with
continuous gunfire whizzing
over his head, the soldier asked
his lieutenant if he might go out
into the "no man's land"
between the trenches to bring
his fallen comrade back.
"You can go," said the
lieutenant, “but i don't think
it's worth it. Your friend is
probably dead and you may
loose your own life too." The
lieutenant's advice didn't
matter, and the soldier went
anyway. Luckily, he
managed to reach his friend,
Placed him onto his shoulder and
bring him back to their
company's trench. As the two
of them tumbled in together to
the bottom of the trench, the
officer checked the wounded
soldier, and then looked kindly
at his friend.
“I told you it wouldn't be
worth it,” he said. “Your
friend is dead and you are
Terribly wounded.”
“It was worth it, though, sir,”
said the soldier.
“What do you mean; worth
it?” responded the Lieutenant.
“Your friend is dead.”
“Yes, Sir” the private
answered. “But it was worth it
because when I got to him, he
was still alive and I had the

Many times in life, whether a
thing is worth doing or not,
really depends on how you look
at it. Take up all your courage
and do something your heart
tells you to do so that you may

your life. May each and every
one of you be blessed with the

a HEART TOUCHING STORy - 2 [a moral story]

A very loving couple have been married for
over 10years without any child and
it was becoming their 11th year.
Steve and Sarah stayed with each
other and greatly hoped that they will
have a child before their 11th
year of marriage runs out
because they were under
persuasion from friends and
family members to get a divorce
but they could'nt let go because
of the strong bond of love between them.
Months passed and one day,
while Dave was returning from
work, he saw his wife walking
down the road with a man. The
man had his arms around her
neck and they looked very happy.
For over a week, he saw the
same man with his wife at
various places and one evening,
while Dave was returning from
work he saw the man drop her
off at the house after giving her
a kiss on the cheek.
Dave was angry and sad.
Two days later, after a hectic day
at work, Dave was taking water
with a glass jug from the
dispenser when the phone rang.
He picked it up and the person
said,"Hello dear, I'll be coming to
your house this evening to see
you as promised. I hope.....".
Dave hung-up the phone. It was
a male voice and he was sure the
person was the man he had
always seen her with.
He suddenly became shaky with
the thought that he has lost his
wife to another man. The glass
jug fell from his hand and
shattered into pieces. Clara came
running into the room asking,"Is
everything okay?".
In anger he gave his wife a push
and she fell.
She wasn't moving or getting up.
Dave then realized that she fell
where he broke the glass jug. A
large piece of glass had pierced
her. He felt her breath, pulse and
heartbeat but there she lay
His wife was dead!
In total confusion, he saw an
envelope in her hand. He took it,
opened it and was shocked by its

tHE FARMER'S CORn [a moral story]

Wait! Before you read the story: Ever think that you are in one way connected with your neighbours, even if they're your worst enemies? Do you know that when helping them in any way, you're indirectly rendering yourself help and vice versa? Now you can read the story to know why I said so...

There was once upon a time, a farmer who
grows corn. This farmer was very popular for planting award-winning corn. Each
year he entered his corn in the
state fair where it won a blue
One particular year a T.V reporter
interviewed him and learned
something interesting about
how he grew it. During the course of the interview, the reporter
discovered that the farmer
shared his corn seeds with his

"How can you afford to share
your best seed corn with your
neighbors when they are
always earning you awards in competition. Don't you know that theirs might beat yours in the next competition
?" the
reporter asked.
"Why sir," said the farmer,
"didn't you know? The winds
picks up pollen from the
ripening corn and swirls it from
field to field. If my neighbors
grow inferior corn, cross-
pollination will steadily degrade
the quality of my corn. If I am to
grow good corn, I must help my
neighbors grow good corn."

The farmer is very much aware of the
connectedness of life. His corn
cannot improve unless his
neighbor's corn also improves.
So it is with our lives. Those
who choose to live in peace
must help their neighbors to live
in peace. Those who choose to
live well must help others to live

tHE LYING PRINCe [a moral tale]

This story is actually one of my favourites, very short though, but yet it's moral is so clear and plain. It is mostly suitable for children...

There was once upon a time, a King whose
son was a dishonest telltale.
This dishonest Prince would threaten to
punish the servants if they ever
let the King know about his behaviour and acts.

One fateful day, the King and his son, the Prince
left the castle together. They
got to a village, at which
they parted and went on separate ways. As usual, the Prince
went back to his normal
behaviour of getting on
everyone's nerves, but the King
returned unannounced and
caught the Prince red-handed,
up to his tricks.
The dishonest Prince took advantage of
the fact that in that village there
was a youth who looked just
exactly like him. He told his father that
it had been the youth who had
done all these bad things.
However, the King, seeing what
a lying snitch this person was,
concluded that the boy in the
village must be his real son, the
So the King took the boy back
with him to the palace, and left
the real Prince in the village.
While there, the Prince finally
came to regret his previous life
filled with lies and accusations.
The other young man heard of
this, and decided to forgive the
Prince. He confessed to the King
that he wasn't his real son after
all. The King left the castle and
brought his son home, and the
two young men ended up as
inseparable friends.

oUTSIDE THE WINDOw [a moral and motivational story]

Before you read this story: Are you in a situation or condition and you feel others you're equal with are more privileged or opportuned than you? How do you react to this situation? Do you get envious? Jealous or...? Well, read this story to see why envy or jealousy is not the right answer in such situation....

Once upon a time...
Two men who were seriously ill,
occupied the same
room in a hospital. One man was allowed to
sit up in his bed for an hour a
day to drain the fluids from his
lungs. His bed was next to the
room's only window. The other
man had to spend all his time
lying flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on
end. They spoke of their lives,
families, their homes,
jobs, their involvement in the
military service, where they had
been on vacation and many other things. And every
afternoon when the man in the
bed next to the window could
sit up, he would pass the time
by describing to his roommate
all the things he could see
outside the window.
The man in the other bed would
live for those one-hour periods
where his world would be
broadened and enlivened by all
the activity and color of the
outside world. Outside this window is
a park with a lovely
lake, the man by the window said. Ducks
and swans played on the water
while children sailed their
model boats. Lovers walked arm
in arm among flowers of every
color of the rainbow. Grand old
trees graced the landscape, and
a fine view of the city skyline
could be seen in the distance. As
the man by the window
described all these
details, the man on the other side
of the room would close his
eyes and imagine the
One warm afternoon the man
by the window described a
parade passing by. Although
the other man could not hear
the band, he could see it in his
mind's eye as the gentleman by
the window portrayed it with
descriptive words.
Unexpectedly, an bad thought
entered his head: Why should
he have all the pleasure of seeing
everything while I never get to
see anything? It seems
unfair. As the thought compiled,
the man felt ashamed at first.
But as the days passed and he
missed seeing more sights, his
envy eroded into resentment
and soon turned him sour. He
began to brood and found
himself unable to sleep. "I should be by that window" was all he kept thinking day after day.
Late one night, as he lay on his back, staring
at the ceiling, the man by the
window began to cough terribly. He
was choking on the fluid in his
lungs. The other man watched
in the dimly lit room as the
struggling man by the window
groped for the button to call for
help. Listening from across the
room, he never moved, never
pushed his own button which
would have brought the nurse
running in. In less than five
minutes, the coughing and
choking stopped, along with
the sound of breathing. Now,
there was nothing more but silence--deathly
The following morning, the day
nurse arrived to bring water for
their baths. When she found the
lifeless body of the man by the
window, she was saddened and
called the hospital attendant to
take it away--no words, no
fuss. As soon as it seemed
appropriate, the man asked if
he could be moved next to the
window. The nurse was happy
to make the switch and after
making sure he was
comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped
himself up on one elbow to take
his first look into the outside world. Finally, he would
have the joy of seeing it all
himself. He strained to slowly
turn to look out the window
beside the bed. It faced a blank
wall. It was then the man realized that his partner who just died has been describing all sort of scenes only to make him happy. It was then all his evil thoughts dawned on him, he could have pressed the emergency button and a nurse would have attended
to him, now it's too late to help. He would have to lay there all alone, lonely, sad and...

The pursuit of happiness is a
matter of choice, it is a positive
attitude we consciously choose
to express. It is not a gift that
gets delivered to our doorstep
each morning, nor does it come
through the window. And I am
certain that our circumstances
are just a small part of what
makes us joyful. If we wait for
them to get just right, we will
never find lasting joy.

1. No matter the condition of things, never nurture an evil thought towards anyone.
2. Render the little help you can at every time possible. Remember, the help you render today will earn you a reward tomorrow.

tHE UNFRIENDLY RIVEr [a moral tale]

There was once a very big river which was unfriendly and lonesome. The river couldn't remember how long ago he had actually decided that he no longer wanted to put up with anything or anyone. This river lived all alone, refusing to share his water with any fish, plant, animal or even any man . And so he lived his life, sadly and filled with loneliness, for so many centuries.

However, one day, a little girl with a bowl came to the bank of this river. In the bowl lived Scamp, her favourite little fish.
The girl was about permanently travel to
another country, and she
wouldn't be able to take Scamp
with her. So she had decided to
give Scamp his freedom.
When Scamp fell into the river,
he immediately felt the river's
loneliness. Scamp tried talking
to the river, but the river told
Scamp to go away. Now, Scamp
was a very happy little fish, and
he wasn't going to give up so
easily. He asked and asked,
swam and swam, and finally he
started jumping in and out of
the water.
The river, feeling all the jumping
and splashing, started laughing.
It tickled!
After a while, this brought the river
into such a good mood that he
started talking to Scamp. Almost
without realizing it, by the end
of that day, Scamp and the river
had become very good friends.
The river spent that night
thinking of how much fun it
was to have friends, and how
much he had missed by not
having any. He asked himself
why he had never had them, but
he couldn't remember.
The following morning, Scamp woke
the river with a few playful
splashes... and that was when
the river remembered why he
had decided to be such an
unfriendly river:
He remembered that he was
very ticklish, and that he
wouldn't have been able to
stand it! Now he remembered
perfectly how he had told
everyone to scoot, that he
wasn't going to put up with all
that tickling.
But, remembering how sad and
lonely he had felt for so many
years, the river realised that
although it may sometimes be a
bit inconvenient or
uncomfortable, it was always
better to have friends and to try
to be happy.

iMMEDIATE ATTENTIOn [a moral story]

A doctor entered the hospital in
hurry after being called in for an
urgent surgery. He answered
the call asap, changed his
clothes & went directly to the
surgery block. He found the

waiting for the doctor. On

The doctor smiled & said:
"I am sorry, I wasn't in the

could after receiving the call......
And now, I wish you'd calm
down so that I can do my work"
"Calm down?! What if your son

Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go

"Giving advises when we're not

the father.
The surgery took some hours
after which the doctor went out
"Thank goodness!, your son is
saved!" And without waiting for
the father's reply he carried on
his way running. "If U have any
question, ask the nurse!!"
"Why is he so arrogant? He
couldn't wait some minutes so
that I ask about my son's state"
Commented the father when
seeing the nurse minutes after
the doctor left.
The nurse answered, tears
coming down her face: "His son

gREEDY KING MIDAs [a moral story]

Almost everyone knows the story of a greedy king known as Midas. Even young children of this generation knows the story. But as common as the story is, It entails several moral lessons for us to learn. For the benefit of those who haven't heard or read it before... Check it out below....

King Midas
had lots and lots of gold. The more gold
he had the more he wanted. He even built a very big treasure house where he
stored all the gold. King Midas used to spend almost half of the day
counting the gold.
One day, as he was counting as usual,
a strange looking man appeared to him
and said he would grant him a
wish. King Midas was delighted
and said, "I would like
everything I touch to turn to
The stranger asked him,
"Oh king, Are you sure?" The king
replied, "Yes, I'm absolutely sure" So the stranger
said, "Ok, starting from tomorrow
morning with the sun rays you
will get the golden touch." The
king thought he must have been
dreaming, this couldn't be true.
But to his greatest surprise, the next day when he woke
up, he touched the bed, his
clothes, and everything turned
into gold. He was very much happy that the wish wasn't a dream.
He looked out of the
window and saw his daughter
playing in the garden. He
decided to give her a surprise
and thought she would be
happy. But before he went to
the garden he decided to read a
book. Just immediately he touched
the book, it turned into gold and he
couldn't read it. Then he decided to have breakfast, as he sat to
have the breakfast, the moment
he touched the fruit and the
glass of water, they turned to
gold. Soon, he was getting more and more hungry and
he said to himself, "I can't eat
and drink gold." Just about that
time his daughter came running
in, he gave her a welcoming hug and she
turned into a gold statue. There
were no more smiles left.
The king bowed his head and
started crying. The strange looking man who
granted the wish came again and
asked the king if he was happy
with his golden touch. The king was ashamed, he told the strange man
that he was the most miserable
The stranger asked him another question,
would you rather have, your
food and loving daughter or
lumps of gold and her golden
At this point, the king cried and
asked for forgiveness. He said, "I
will give up all my gold. Please
give me my daughter back
because without her I have lost
everything worth having." The
stranger said to the king, "You
have become wiser than before"
and he reversed the spell. He got
his daughter back in his arms
and the king learned a lesson
that he never forget for the rest
of his life.

Always think very deeply before making choices, each choice you make has its own consequence so, make wise choices.

1. Distorted values lead to
2. Sometimes getting what you
want may be a bigger tragedy
than not getting what you
3. Unlike in soccer games
where players can be
substituted, the game of life
allows no substitutions or
replays. We may not get a
second chance to reverse our
tragedies, as the king did.

tHE THREE TREEs [an inspirational story]

A very important message is conveyed in the story you're about to read now, try to read every bit of it and stay inspired.

Once upon a time...

There were three trees which resided on the top of a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams for the future when the first tree said "Someday I hope to be a treasure chest. I could be filled with gold, silver and other precious gems. So, I could be decorated with intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty." Then the second tree said, "Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take kings and queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. Everyone will feel safe in me because of the strength of my hull." Finally the third tree said, "I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill and look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me." After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one of them came to the first tree he said, "This used looks like it's very strong, I think I should be able to sell the wood to a carpenter for a very good price" ... and he began cutting it down. The tree was happy, because he knew that the carpenter would make him into a treasure chest. In front of the second tree another woodsman said, "This looks like a strong tree, I should be able to sell it to the shipyard." The second tree was also happy because he knew his dreams were also close to coming true. When the woodsmen came upon the third tree, the tree was very frightened because he knew that if they cut him down his dreams would not come true. One of the woodsmen said, "I don't need anything special from my tree so I'll take this one", and he cut it down. When the first tree arrived at the carpenter's workshop, he was made into a feed box for animals. He was then placed in the barn and filled with hay. This was not at all what he had prayed for. The second tree was cut and made into a small fishing boat. His dreams of being a mighty ship and carrying kings had come to an end. The third tree was cut into large pieces and left alone in the dark for a long time. The years went by, and the trees forgot about their dreams Then one day, a man and woman came to the barn. She gave birth and they placed the baby in the hay in the feed box that was made from the first tree. The man wished that he could have made a crib for the baby, but this manger would have to do. The tree could feel the importance of this event and knew that it had held the greatest treasure of all time! Years later, a group of men got in the fishing boat made from the second tree. One of them was tired and went to sleep. While they were out on the water, a great storm arose and the tree didn't think it was strong enough to keep the men safe. The men woke the sleeping man, and he stood and said "Peace" and the storm stopped. At this time, it was then that the tree knew that it had carried the King of Kings in its boat. Finally, someone came and got the third tree. It was carried through the streets as the people mocked the man who was carrying it. When they came to a stop, the man was nailed to the tree and raised in the air to die at the top of a hill. When Sunday came, the tree came to realize that it was strong enough to stand at the top of the hill and be as close to God as was possible, because Jesus had been crucified on it.

Sometimes things don't seem to be going your way, one thing you should always know is that God has a plan for you. If you place your trust in Him, He will give you great gifts.
Each of the trees got what they wanted, just not in the way they had imagined. We don't always know what God's plans are for us. We just know that His ways are not our ways, but His ways are always the best and nothing but the best!

dO IT YOURSELf [a moral story]

This story you're about to read is very short, it was told by one of my teachers far back then in school. I'm sure you'll get something important to learn from it. The story goes thus:

There was once a man who works for a building establishment. He was ready
to retire from his work due to fact that he was growing old.
He told his
Employer-Contractor of his plan
to leave the house-building
business and
live a more leisurely life with his
wife, children and extended family. The month has not ended, he would miss the paycheck,
but still, he wanted to retire.

The contractor was very grieved and sorry to see
his dedicated and professional worker go, and asked if
could help with just one more building project
as a favour.
The man agreed, but it
was obvious that his heart was not in
the work.
The man resorted to
shoddy workmanship and used
materials. It was an
unfortunate way to end a
dedicated career.
When the building work was finally completed
, the employer came to
inspect the
He then handed the front-door
key to the man. "This is
house," he said, "my gift to
you for your long term and dedicated service."
The man was shocked!
What a shame!
If he had only known he was
building his own house, he
would have done
it all so differently.

Life is like a do-it-yourself
project. " Your attitude and
choices you make today, build
the "house" you live in

tHE BOULDEr [a moral story]

A very long time ago, a King had a boulder (a very big rock)
placed on a roadway. Then he
hid himself somewhere around and watched to see
if anyone would remove the
huge rock from the roadway. Some of the king's
wealthiest merchants and
courtiers came by, they saw the huge rock and simply did nothing else than to
walk around it. Many of them even loudly
blamed the king for not keeping
the roads clear, but none of them made a single attempt to
the stone out of the way.
Again, some of the chiefs of the village passed by, saw the rock, made no attempt to remove it but instead, walked away.
Not long, a
poor peasant came along carrying a
load of vegetables. When he
approached the rock, he laid down his burden
and tried to move the stone from the middle of the road to
A side of the road. After much
pushing and straining, he finally
succeeded. After rolling away the rock, the peasant
picked up his load of vegetables and was about to go, when,
he noticed a purse lying in the
road where the rock had
been. The purse contained so many
gold coins enough to make one rich for a lifetime and a note from the
king stating that the gold
was for the person who
removed the boulder from the
roadway. He had become rich!

The poor peasant farmer learned
what many of us never
understand. Every obstacle
presents an opportunity to
improve our condition.

sACRIFICE OF LOVe [a motivational story]

The family doctor told little John that he could save his
sister's life by giving her some
blood. The little five-year-old girl was very
near death, she was a victim of the same deadly disease
from which John, her elder brother of age eight, had made a
marvellous recovery two years
earlier. The only chance for
restoration to health was a blood
transfusion from someone who
had previously conquered the
illness. Since the two children
[John and the sick little sister]
had the same rare blood type,
the boy was the ideal donor.
"John, would you like to give
your blood for your sister Mary?" the
doctor asked him.
The boy hesitated.
His lower lip started to tremble out of fear.
Then he finally smiled, and said, "Yes,
Doctor. I'll give my blood for my
sister." Soon the two children
were wheeled into the
operating theatre - Mary, now very pale and
thin; John, robust and the
picture of health. Neither of them said a word, they both remained silent.
but when their eyes met, John
grinned. As his blood siphoned
into Mary's veins, one could
obviously see new life come into
her weak and tired body. The ordeal was
almost over when John's
brave little voice broke the
long silence, "Say Doctor, when will I
die?" It was only then that the
doctor realised what the
moment of hesitation, the
trembling of the lip, had meant
Being just a little bey, John actually
thought that when giving his blood
to his sister he was giving up his
life! And in that brief moment,
the final decision that he had
made was the greatest love of
all... The doctor was moved by the little boy's brave final decision... the unconditional
sacrificing love...

mESSAGE OF THE STORy Sacrificing out of what you
have is human nature, but
sacrificing all of what you have
needs a lot of LOVE.
Nowadays people always think
of what they can get in return
before giving, if the return is
less than their givings, then they
will be reluctant to give. Always think of what you can do to help others and not just what you can get from them.

constantly needed a bath. And
Teddy could be unpleasant. It
got to the point where Mrs.
Thompson would actually take
delight in marking his papers
with a broad red pen, making
bold X's and then putting a big
F at the top of his papers.
At the school where Mrs.
Thompson taught, she was
required to review each child's
past records and she put
Teddy's off until last. However,
when she reviewed his file, she
was in for a surprise. Teddy's
first grade teacher wrote,
"Teddy is a bright child with a
ready laugh. He does his work
neatly and has good manners...
he is a joy to be around." His
second grade teacher wrote,
"Teddy is an excellent student,
well liked by his classmates, but
he is troubled because his
mother has a terminal illness
and life at home must be a
struggle." His third grade
teacher wrote, "His mother's
death has been hard on him. He
tries to do his best but his
father doesn't show much
interest and his home life will
soon affect him if some steps
aren't taken." Teddy's fourth
grade teacher wrote, "Teddy is
withdrawn and doesn't show
much interest in school. He
doesn't have many friends and
sometimes sleeps in class."
By now, Mrs. Thompson realised
the problem and she was
ashamed of herself. She felt
even worse when her students
brought her Christmas presents,
wrapped in beautiful ribbons
and bright paper, except for
Teddy's. His present which was
clumsily wrapped in the heavy,
brown paper that he got from a
grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson
took pains to open it in the
middle of the other presents.
Some of the children started to
laugh when she found a
rhinestone bracelet with some
of the stones missing, and a
bottle that was one quarter full
of perfume. But she stifled the
children's laughter when she
exclaimed how pretty the
bracelet was, putting it on, and
dabbing some of the perfume
on her wrist.
Teddy Stoddard stayed after
school that day just long
enough to say, "Mrs. Thompson,
today you smelled just like my
Mom used to." After the children
left she cried for at least an
hour. On that very day, she quit
teaching reading, and writing,
and arithmetic. Instead, she
began to teach children.
Mrs. Thompson paid particular
attention to Teddy. As she
worked with him, his mind
seemed to come alive. The more
she encouraged him, the faster
he responded. By the end of the
year, Teddy had become one of
the smartest children in the
class and, despite her lie that
she would love all the children
the same, Teddy became her
"teacher's pet."
A year later, she found a note
under her door, from Teddy,
telling her that she was still the
best teacher he ever had in his
whole life.
Six years went by before she got
another note from Teddy. He
then wrote that he had finished
high school, third in his class,
and she was still the best
teacher he ever had in his whole
life. Four years after that, she
got another letter, saying that
while things had been tough at
times, he'd stayed in school, had
stuck with it, and would soon
graduate from college with the
highest of honours. He assured
Mrs. Thompson that she was still
the best and favourite teacher
he ever had in his whole life.
Then four more years passed
and yet another letter came.
This time he explained that after
he got his bachelor's degree, he
decided to go a little further.
The letter explained that she
was still the best and favourite
teacher he ever had. But now his
name was a little longer, the
letter was signed, Theodore F.
Stoddard, M.D.
The story doesn't end there. You
see, there was yet another letter
that spring. Teddy said he'd met
this girl and was going to be
married. He explained that his
father had died a couple of
years ago and he was
wondering if Mrs. Thompson
might agree to sit in the place at
the wedding that was usually
reserved for the mother of the
groom. Of course, Mrs.
Thompson did. And guess what?
She wore that bracelet, the one
with several rhinestones
missing. And she made sure she
was wearing the perfume that
Teddy remembered his mother
wearing on their last Christmas
together. They hugged each,
and Dr. Stoddard whispered in
Mrs. Thompson s ear, "Thank
you Mrs. Thompson for believing
in me. Thank you so much for
making me feel important and
showing me that I could make a
difference." Mrs. Thompson,
with tears in her eyes,
whispered back. She said,
"Teddy, you have it all wrong.
You were the one who taught
me that I could make a
difference. I didn't know how to
teach until I met you."
Warm someone's heart today....
Pass it along.

tHE PRECIOUS GIFt [a motivational story]

This story is about a young man and his daughter.
A long time ago, around christmas season, the man punished his 4-years-
old daughter for wasting a big roll
of gold wrapping paper. Money
was difficult to get and he became
very annoyed when the little girl tried
to decorate a box to put under
the Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, not considering the punishment, the little girl
brought the gift to her father
the next morning and said, "Daddy, this is for you
The man was embarrassed by
his earlier overreaction, but he became angry
again when he
Discovered that the box was empty.
He shouted at her, at the top of his voice stating, "Don't
you know, when you give
someone a present, there is
supposed to be something
inside? The little girl looked up
at his face with tears in her eyes
and cried, "Oh, Daddy, it's not
empty at all. I blew kisses into
the box. They're all for you,
The father was crushed. He put
his arms around his little girl,
and he begged for her
Only a few days later, the little girl died in an accident

. It is also told that her
father kept that very gold box by his
bed for many years and,
whenever he was discouraged,
he would take out an imaginary
kiss and remember the love of
the child who had put it there.

Message of the story: In a very real sense, each one of
us, as humans beings, have been
given a gold container filled
with unconditional love and
kisses... from our children,
family members, friends, and
God. There is simply no other
possession, anyone could hold,
more precious than this. Always think twice before taking an action. When our family members take an action, we should take time to consider them before reacting.
